Beats Headphones – Are They Worth It or Overhyped?

beats headphones

Beats headphones are insanely popular. Simply go out in public in any major urban area in North America and look around. You’ll see somebody rocking Beats headphones within minutes. At the gym its the same way: body-builder type dudes frequently wear wireless Beats as they grunt and sweat their way through a workout.

But, among audiophiles, Beats have gotten a bad rap as being overhyped and overpriced. The aesthetics of a premium brand, the allure of Dr. Dre, and the acceptance in urban America has made the headphones controversially popular.

So what’s the truth? Well, in this audiophile’s opinion there are usually better value options than Beats when you are shopping for headphones. But, if the style and brand-name is important to you, then it could be worth the extra cost. And recently, the pricing on various Beats models has come down to reasonable levels. It turns out that they aren’t all that premium-priced compared to lesser known brands.

If you gotta have your Beats, here are the models I recommend most:

Three (3) Beats Headphones Worth Buying:

1.Beats Studio Wireless Over-Ear Headphone (Matte Black)

For listening to music at home, on the bus or airplane, or in the studio, the Beats Studio wireless headphones are pretty great. Among wireless headphones, the price point is mid range, and the quality matches that level.

Features include:

  • Hands-Free calling with built-in microphone
  • Bluetooth range of 30 feet
  • Decent noise canceling technology
  • Rechargeable (no AAA batteries required) with 12 hours of charge time

2.Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones – Gloss Black

The Solo3 is the number one best seller in the headphones category on Amazon. Is this due to the hype over Beats as a brand or the headphones’ actual quality? To be fair, its a bit of both. Regardless, this is actually a pretty solid pair of headphones. They are well-built, comfortable, they look clean and stylish, they are comfortable, and have all the features you need for daily use.

Features include:

  • First class Bluetooth technology
  • 40 hours battery life
  • Adjustable fit and comfortable feel
  • On-ear controls to take calls, change music, and activate Siri
  • Free carrying case

3.Beats EP Wired On-Ear Headphone – White

For a less bulky and more streamlined version of Beats, the EP Wired On-Ear Headphones are pretty good. While I’d recommend going with the wireless pair(s) over this one, if you want a slimmer profile and the signature Beats style then the EPs are pretty cool.

Features include:

  • Battery-free design
  • Durable frame
  • Sleek, minimalist profile
  • Lightweight stainless steel
  • Midrange quality audio
