Bluetooth Headphones for the Audiophile – Top Pairs of 2017

Bluetooth headphones are pretty awesome. Especially now that the technology has developed to the point where sound and call quality is extremely high, but there is no cord to deal with. I still use my pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 15s (wired), but I hope they break soon (secretly) so that I can justify buying a pair of the high quality bluetooth headphones that I’ve tested and reviewed.

When bluetooth technology was first introduced to headphones, the quality was hit or miss. It was a great breakthrough to not have to deal with long, tangly cables but the tradeoff in quality wasn’t worth it to most true audiophiles.

That’s all changed, and now there are several great pairs of Bluetooth headphones with very resonant bass, distinct mids and highs, and crisp quality that all help you get lost in your world of music.

Here are my favorite Bluetooth headphones out today:

3.Bose SoundSport Wireless Headphones, Black

My favorite pair of bluetooth headphones is also the smallest. I am a Bose fan-boy, and I’ve admitted that before. But man, the SoundSports are just so awesome for basically being bluetooth earbuds.

The sound quality is off the charts for earbuds, and the balancing is consistent at all volume levels (thanks to the Bose active EQ technology).

The best features are:

  • Bluetooth and NFC, pairing with audio prompts
  • Stay Hear+ tips keep these in your ear while running or working out
  • Sweat and weather resistant
  • 6 hours of battery life per charge (enough for a day out)

2.Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphones, Noise Cancelling – Black

Again, with the Bose! (I know you’re thinking that). I’ve written about this pair in my 2017 Buyer’s Guide for “Best Headphones for DJs” and I’ll mention them again whenever I can. Because the Bose QuietComfort 35s are simply magnificent and worth every penny. Are they pricey? Yes. However, I still use my pair of QuietComfort 15s that I bought five years ago, and have only had to replace the ear cushions once. The quality is the best in the industry, in my opinion, and the noise canceling technology is also the best. Period. The 35s are bluetooth-enabled, making them by far the most comfortable, highest performing, bluetooth headphones I’ve tried.

Features include:

  • World-class noise cancellation
  • Volume optimized EQ balance
  • Bluetooth and NFC pairing with voice prompts
  • 20 hours of battery life
  • Optional wired mode for doubled battery life
  • Noise-rejecting dual microphone (take calls in the wind)

1. Beats Studio Wireless Over-Ear Headphone (Matte Black)

For listening to music at home, on the bus or airplane, or in the studio, the Beats Studio wireless headphones are pretty great. Among wireless headphones, the price point is mid range, and the quality matches that level.

Features include:

  • Hands-Free calling with built-in microphone
  • Bluetooth range of 30 feet
  • Decent noise canceling technology
  • Rechargeable (no AAA batteries required) with 12 hours of charge time
