Wireless Headphones – The Five Best Pairs of 2017

As an amateur DJ and passionate lover of many genres of music, I find myself with headphones on most of the day. Wireless headphones have a special place in my heart for the simple fact that they do not have an annoying cord to deal with! There are many situations in which I want to be able to have freedom of movement while experiencing high sound quality, such as:

  • Doing household tasks while I listen to music (I respect my neighbors too much to just blast Bassnectar through my apartment).
  • Working in my home studio, where I move around a lot.
  • At the gym while working out.
  • Flying.

So for a good portion of my day, I switch to my wireless headphones. I believe investing in a quality pair is worth it, but also there are several great models out there that don’t break the bank.

After buying, field testing, and reviewing multiple sets of wireless headphones: here are my results!

The 5 Best Wireless Headphones of 2017:

 5. Plantronics Backbeat Sense Wireless Bluetooth Headphones with Mic – Black

The Backbeats have such a sophisticated look to them, and when I bought them I imagined myself listening to jazz with them in a mahogany office.

Of course, aesthetics are just part of the package. And Plantronics did a great job on these wireless headphones. I use them as my “around-the-house” headphones, and they are especially useful for talking on the phone with the built-in mic.

Key features are:

  • Excellent microphone quality
  • Long bluetooth range (100 meters / 330 feet)
  • Rich audio quality in bass, mids, and highs.
  • Dual-mic noise canceling for calls
  • Comfortable

4. August EP750 Active Noise Cancelling Wireless Bluetooth Over-ear Stereo Headphones with Microphone and Volume Control – aPTX/Black – Reduce Air Travel Engine Noise

August isn’t a well-known brand, but they make some very high quality headphones at reasonable prices. This wireless pair includes noise cancelling functions, which would normally price a pair like this in a much higher bracket.

This pair is excellent for flying or traveling, as well as general every day tasks around the house.

The EP750s feature:

  • Noise canceling/reduction technology
  • Integrated remote control (it is on the earpiece) to take/end calls, play/pause music, change tracks, etc.
  • Hands-free talking with high-quality microphone
  • 3.5mm jack available to use with non-bluetooth devices.

3.Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless, Black

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Sennheiser is my favorite brand for headphones. For wireless options, Urbanite is one of their best models.

I really enjoy using these in my home music studio for their rich sound that audiophiles will approve of. They are also excellent for traveling.

The Urbanite XLs feature:

  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • NFC
  • Voice Prompts
  • 3-way calling
  • 25 hours of listening time
  • 13 days of standby time
  • Intuitive touch controls on ear cup

2.BÖHM Wireless Bluetooth Over Ear Cushioned Headphones with Active Noise Cancelling – B76

Bohm is similar to August (above) for being a lesser known brand that delivers excellent value for the price. And like the August’s wireless headphones, this pair offers active noise cancelling features without the hefty price tag you’d see on a pair from Bose or Beats.

This is a solid, all-around pair of wireless headphones that have all of the features you need:

  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Comfortable, fluffy cushioned ear pads
  • Built-in volume control
  • 8 hours of noise cancellation
  • 16 hours of music listening time
  • Foldable design, convenient for traveling

1.Sennheiser RS 175 RF Wireless Headphone System

Sennheiser…I love you. I love you for the RS 175. Holy cow are these great headphones! Everything about them earned them my #1 spot. The blocky yet sleek black aesthetics, the comfort, the Bass Boost, the Virtual Surround Sound…oh man. I really recommend this pair. Yes, they come with a higher price tag but if you spend as much time as I do with headphones on then it’s kind of like buying a mattress: it is worth spending a little extra.

Before reading the features, just look at them. They look like a spaceship.

Key features on the RS 175 are the:

  • 330 ft Bluetooth range
  • Bass Boost (selectable) feature
  • Virtual Surround Sound (GREAT for movies)
  • Digital and Analog inputs
  • Transmitter station that supports TWO sets of headphones SIMULTANEOUSLY. That means you and your significant other can watch the same movie, both wearing headphones, and not wake the neighbors.
